Well last night I was chillin with my friend Mac and I decided to logg on were fed up..he was surprised that I was so into this and so involed with eating healthy. He mentioned that he would perfer a a salad or fruit cup instead of a cheese burger but the healthier choice is too expensive!! So people rather eat a 99 cent cheese burger than a like 2 dollar fruit cup. So last night I went to sleep thinking about this lil situation and I decided to do some research and answer our question. Hers a lil bit of information to share with you guys:

Calorie for calorie, junk foods not only cost less than fruits and vegetables, but junk food prices also are less likely to rise as a result of inflation. They found that higher-calorie, energy-dense foods are the better bargain for cash-strapped shoppers. Energy-dense munchies cost on average $1.76 per 1,000 calories, compared with $18.16 per 1,000 calories for low-energy but nutritious foods. They also showed that low-calorie foods were more likely to increase in price, surging 19.5 percent over the two-year study period. High-calorie foods remained a relative bargain, dropping in price by 1.8 percent. Although people don’t knowingly shop for calories per ser, the data shows that it’s easier for low-income people to sustain themselves on junk food rather than fruits and vegetables.

Based on a journalist findings, a 2,000-calorie diet would cost just $3.52 a day if it consisted of junk food, compared with $36.32 a day for a diet of low-energy dense foods(Healthy food). However, most people eat a mix of foods. The average American spends about $7 a day on food, although low-income people spend about $4. If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you the most calories per dollar. Not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming "luxury goods."

Well there isnt an exact explaination why healthy food cost more but this cost to an explination... as you can see healthy food is more expensive than junk food. And and famlies like one ones that live here in Baldwin Park are affected by this.. i grew up in a middle class family and my mother tryed doing the best she could do to feed us vegetables and fruits but they were really expensive...now i was lucky to have a father that is a gardener and he had a lil garden going on backyardthere with fresh tomatos, oinions, cucumbers, apples, mangos, and many other delicious fruits and vegietables... maybe all of use can do that and grow a lil garden in out own backyard!!! i encourge you guys to do so!!

Healthy foods more expensive? I can get a pound of apples for a buck at the store :S. Its not the food is more expensive, its that its harder to find and finding that food takes effort. Effort and initiative towards our fitness is not something we have in our busy 24/7 society. Make time to treat your body good and it'll return the favor. Trust me :D. Just a tip, go to the wholesale grocer's market. Everything there is all natural and super cheap :) 7-11 also sells bananas for 75 cents a pop. I'd rather have that than a $1.75 slurpie :D

Oh wow, figures why Trader Joes or Fresh and Easy(I think) are way more than any other supermarket. No, you get the million points! Kudos to you. =) This is really interesting because teens get little dollars for allowance. It's no wonder, we eat the way we do.
