It Takes Guts to Fight Obesity

Hello! I wanted to update you on the Water Taste Tests we've (students and I) been conducting here at The Accelerated Schools. It's been really interesting. The purpose of the Water Taste Test is to give TAS students the opportunity to taste the difference between tap water that went through a filter and regular bottled water.
The following is a general idea of how the Water Taste Test was conducted.

Students would test other students by giving them three different types of water (Sparklets, Arrowhead, and filtered tap water) in identical cups. Students would then let the student tasting the water (the taster) know that he/she should remember the taste of each option. (Smell, taste)

Students would then ask if the student taking the test (taster) could identify which was the tap water and which was the bottled water.

The purpose is for the excersise not to be competetive so students would engage the taster in a discussion about water regardless if the taster got it right or wrong. And finally students would ask the taster if they would sign in to join our youth group and to show their support for healthy access to water on campus.

The results have been quite interesting. After talking to our students we came up with a hypothesis. The hypothesis is that because students' primary source of water is bottled water they are choosing the bottled water as being tastier and not the tap water like I personally had experienced doing the same test with an adult audience at an Art Gallery.

What do you think?!
