Ending Food Waste: Los Angeles City Passes Ordinance

The city food rescue ordinance passed last Wednesday in City Council 11-0. City departments will now report back on an implementation plan within 60 days. The ordinance will facilitate donations of edible surplus food from city agencies such as the Convention Center and Parks & Recreation to emergency food banks and pantries around the city. In addition, the city will promote the idea of salvaging the tons of perfectly good food thrown in the garbage to businesses, who will hopefully respond with donations.
