It Takes Guts to Fight Obesity

Changing the Communities perception of Healthy Foods

Changing the communities perception! People often get the idea of changing the communities perception about healthy foods, fruits and veggies but the question on how? comes up. When most people think of healthy food they automatically know that it can be good for you but when they think about eating it they think that it can also taste nasty. I've heard kids say that they dont like healthy foods because its "White food" or it taste nasty. If we teach younger kids about the importance of eating healthy and actually bring healthy foods and letting them taste it daily, it can increase the chances of them eating a fruit or veggie on there own daily. Flash cards of fruits and veggies that are often used to teach children in classrooms are no longer effective we need to keep them active, develope a garden for them to go an plant and grow vegetables and fruit, and most important bring and give them veggies to eat daily. Show them that eating healthy isnt bad after all! If we can influence the community to grow and plant veggies and fruit at a community garden like the one near the accelerated school in south central los angeles this can be an impact on the community and increase the chances of them living a healthier lifestyle. Now, people may think at first that this would be a waste of time, but if we expand the amount of gardens in the community this can change! We need to increase the amount of green space that we have as well as community gardens.
