Should Summer Break Be The End Of Exercise?

We all love summer vacation. but is there something we can do while we enjoy our break. Well of course! Many people when they were younger, even before their preteen era, and were full of energy couldn't stop playing during summer. As we get older though we tend to lose some of our energy and we can't do all the things we used to be able to. What is the solution to this conumdrum? Well you could play around with any younger siblings or cousins, if any, or even just ride your bike… Continue

The Accelerated Schools Garden began in the spring of 2003 with a committee of teachers and parents interested in adding green space to their urban school. Being Anemic Saved My Life

When I was younger since I grew up thinking I didn't need exercise I was over weight. Until last year I couldn't go a day without something really unhealthy. But last year I all of sudden got really sick and could barely eat 2 small meals a day. It got so bad I lost about 40 pounds. I went from 140 pounds to 100 pounds. I'm only 13 years old if I hadn't become anemic I would have become obese and that would have been bad. Now I'm a lot better and barely have to worry about it any more. Regular… Continue

The Schoolyard Foodie: The Oakland Farm to School Network

by GEHRY OATEY

The Center for Disease control tells us that 72 million Americans are victims of obesity. This post is not going to be another hope-squelching commentary on how fat we are getting in America.

Although there is substantial evidence to support that thought, this

short piece can provide some glitter around a project that is helping

to prevent obesity.

Every Wednesday, volunteer parents and middle school students run the produce stand at…
