So, I'll confess that this summer was the first time I got the opportunity to cook. I know it's pathetic to some, but my mom is the cook, she makes home meals everyday and has always taught me that the kitchen is restricted & her personal sanctuary when she is cooking. Luckily I slept over my friend's house and she actually gave me the opportunity to help out even if I had to make white-lies saying I was understanding every direction she directed to me. So, this comes to my topic, BACON,…

Rule Of Thumb
-A daily value above 20% is HIGH
-A daily value below 5% is…

The People of Los Angeles!!
As you all know, the food served at public schools in America is not adequate, but also presents a major obstacle for young people in their ability to thrive and live free of obesity and chronic disease. As you may have heard, Slow Food USA is leading an exciting campaign to help get real food into schools through reform to the Child Nutrition Act, which is up for reauthorization and review by Congress later this year. We have claimed September 7th, 2009,…

The Daily Green is full of interesting useful tidbits about staying healthy in an unhealthy world.

Joint-Use
What is Joint-use?
To my understanding, it is the sharing of a building or open space by two parties.
i. e.
Let us take a school, such as Sierra Vista, if we implemented joint-use, one party would be the school body and another party, the community. We could isolate one part of the establishment such as the school gym and let both parties make use of it. Such as, students in gym class, after school athletes, as well as families in…

So walking around South LA, you see a lot of empty lots. Having the imagination that I have, I start to imagine what these empty lots could be. Being very well aware of the fact that South LA is a food desert, a community or area where there is nil to no food of nutritional value. Here is a very serious problem and a possible solution. Seeing as how healthy foods and fresh produce a very needed, these empty lots cam provide it! These empty lots can be transformed to gardens, community gardens,…

ENJOY!
Americans have a drinking problem—we simply consume too much nutrient-empty, calorie-full liquids. Blame food marketers for the ever-expanding serving vessels, chock-full of cheap sugar substitutes, a variety of hard-to-pronounce chemicals, and tons of fats. But it’s not all doom and…

This is a great article that I found on acne and fast food.. check it out...
There are two schools of thought on the relationship between acne and fast food. One school will say acne has nothing to do with fast food. I can agree with this in a small way in that acne is not caused by fast food, but it can make the skin condition worse. Doctors will tell you this, especially that high oil, high sugar foods such as soft drink and oily burgers will lead to worse acne.
Here are…
