... you should know that I am an Italian-Guatemalan aspiring actress who was born raised and currently resides in South Central, Los Angeles; who loves food! Living in South Central is challenging, especially when having been educated about what is available to you, and what you need to live and thrive for a very long lifetime. Most kids here go to the Liquor Store, or Mini-Mart on the corner, as the are on almost every corner, and buy a Coke and some Hot Cheetos, almost daily, and aren't aware of the long-term health infractions; but I am! But what I do need, like a big healthy grocery store, is not available to me, locally in my community at least, so what do I eat? I have spent most of my High School career doing things like: attending conferences to get advice and feedback on how to change my community, and learning about the politics of health policies and how to change them; learning about the history of Los Angeles and how it even came to be a food desert (a district with little or no access to foods needed to maintain a healthy diet); converting local corner stores so that they can provide healthy foods to the community, filming all the content so that it can be part of a market makeover toolkit website (so that anyone who desires to convert a local corner store of theirs has the tools available to them); go on the radio to talk about a fast food menu labeling bill and why it is important (AB 1420); Go on countless interviews to talk about the work we've done and the challenges that face our community; & being a part of this informational social network to reach, inform and share the knowledge we have with the masses. Be skeptical about things, and question them, until you have answers, don't just accept what is given to you; in short
¡No seas papa frita! (Don't be a french fry). I have a-lot of knowledge to share, so don't hesitate to ask a question, or just stop by and say hi! :D
